Preseason Game 2

A few things from tonight's game

- Looks like the defense might pick up right where it left off with creating turnovers

- Roy Helu should feel good about his chances as #2 running back

- Rex is Rex...enough said

-I think the Shanahan's have done a good job of finding young talent since being here

- London Fletcher knows the whereabouts of the fountain of youth

- Bacarri Rambo looked bad on an open space tackle...again

-....and then proceeded to force a fumble

- Santana Moss is one of the most underrated wide receivers and has been

- Special teams coverage looked solid tonight

- Please NFL do something about personal foul hits when a guy lowers himself as the defender hits him. Automatically review that penalty and reverse it if it happens.

Ten Observations

A list of ten observations so far from training camp.

1. RG3 will be playing week 1.....and be fine

2. Bacarri Rambo may have been a steal in the sixth round

3. Fred Davis seems to be recovered from his achilles injury

4. Aldrick Robinson could be a name you hear more this year.

5. Seems like the facilities in Richmond are nice

6. If needed due to injury, they will be happy they signed Nick Barnett

7. I am happy the turmoil is in eagles camp and not ours!

8.If he stays healthy, Pierre Garcon will be a beast

9. I am glad we have Trent Williams for our left tackle

10. with Kai Forbath, we are hearing very little about kickers...finally

Kicking with Kai

Chip Lohmiller. He was a good kicker. Before him it was Mark Moseley. Very good kicker.

It has been a long time since the Redskins have had a reliable kicker. A long time since you could feel confident with three seconds left and down by two that getting to the 35 yard line gave us a very good chance. A long time since you could watch a field goal with both eyes open.

It seems like that day is finally here. I understand Kai is just in his second year but how impressive was he last year?! Yes, he needs to do a little better with kickoffs, but I believe that will come this year. From what I have been reading he is just as accurate so far in training camp as he was last year.

Although it is an overlooked position at times, it is great knowing that the position of kicker hopefully doesn't have to be worried about for a long time.

Hall of Fame Game

One week from tonight the NFL preseason games officially start with the Hall of Fame game. This is the point where it really feels like football is close to me.

Preseason kicks into full gear. Watching to see what rookies and what surprise players get talked about and get everyone wondering if they can actually make the team. Long-shots are discussed about all around the NFL.

Fantasy football drafts are taking place. Deciding which breakout or surprise rookie you can draft that will out smart all of your opponents. Being with your buddies for the draft and harassing everyone for their "horrible" picks or because they try to draft someone already drafted.

The nights start getting a little bit cooler. The days begin slowly getting shorter. The build up for the first weekend of regular season gets bigger and bigger. High school and college games begin. Ahhh yes, what a great time of year!

Bring On Football!!

What is the thing that makes you really feel that football in the air feeling?

Morgan and Hankerson

All off season I have been reading about how good Leonard Hankerson has looked and how he is focused and working hard at improving.

Josh Morgan played hurt most of last year. Between still having screws in his foot and his foot not being 100 percent yet to having ligament problems in his hands, it wasn't exactly the scenario he wanted for his debut season in D.C.

I am very interested to see both of them this year. It appears both of them are having a good training camp so far. I am excited to see them in preseason games to see how they look this year.

If a more focused Hankerson and a healthier Morgan are what we get, that could really be a big thing. With Garcon getting a lot of the attention, these two could both stand to put up some pretty good numbers this year.

Sure would be great to have a trio even close to being the Posse of old. Here is hoping for that!

Pecs a Wreck

For the second time in as many years, Keenan Robinson tore a pec muscle today. Not the same one as last year, the other side. Not good news for the Redskins as he was to hopefully learn to be the man for London Fletcher whenever he is done. (probably after this year?)

The same thing happened to Brian Orakpo. Two years ago he tore his and in the second game last year tore it again. Unfortunately it cost him the remainder of the year last year. He looks to be ready to go and completely healed. I hope this is the case because the Redskins really need him this year. For his rushing ability as well as his leadership.

I guess this seems like such a rare injury to happen to me. Just seems very odd that first of all it would happen to two different guys and second it would happen twice to both of them. I hope this is the end of these injuries for the Redskins. Please guys, stick to the simple two or three week injuries!!

To Play Or Not To Play.....

It appears the debate on RG3 playing in preseason games has been answered quickly. Coach Shanahan told reporters today the plan is to not play him in any preseason games. Too watch click here.

So good idea or bad. I can see a case for either side, but I think it is more good then bad. A few extra weeks of not getting hit on the knee can't hurt. It may mean a few weeks of regular season games to get in a good sync with the receivers. However, most of them if not all, will be here from last year and already have some sort of chemistry.

Hopefully they will be able to closely duplicate game speed at practice. Not the same, but better than RG3 not being available for week 1

Of course, Coach Shanahan said that is the plan. It certainly would not be the first time he said something and things let's just say ummmm changed somehow. So odds are he doesn't play in the preseason at all, but don't be too shocked if he somehow gets a few series in game three or four of the preseason.

Thoughts???

Visiting Training Camp

Several times I have been fortunate enough to go to a Redskins training camp. A couple times in Carlisle, PA and a couple times in Ashburn, Va.

This year they will be going to Richmond, VA for the first time. I was hoping to go for a day but it doesn't look like it will work out.

I think this is a really great opportunity for fans to see the players up close. It is also a great chance to get some good photos of the players as they are practicing. I can still remember the first one I ever went to walking through Carlisle in between the morning and afternoon practices. I saw a VW Bug drive by and said to my friend Kenny, "Wow! That looked like Darrell Green driving it." Sure enough I came to find out that it actually was him. Really neat to see a great like him driving a simpler car like that. (makes me think of Alfred Morris these days)

I can also remember Lavar Arrington getting yelled at by his coaches because he was trying to get the fans to give him their autograph on some tape he had around his wrists.

If you ever get the chance to check out training camp, I would highly advise doing it at least once. It is a great experience and more than likely you will be glad you did!

It is time again

Hello..... I want to write a blog about the Redskins talking about all things from an average fans perspective. Seeing as how training camp is about to begin I thought it was time to get it started. So, here it is. I hope to add some changes in the next few weeks. I hope fellow Redskins fans will enjoy reading my take on things and will comment their thoughts on things as well. Tomorrow I will start my first post on a subject. Thank you for taking the time to come here.
